The Smithsonian Center for Learning and Digital Access hosted an event for the museum community entitled, “Rewarding Museum Participation and Learning: New Approaches." The program featured a talk by: Maxwell L. Anderson, the Eugene McDermott Director of the Dallas Museum of Art; Jonathan Finkelstein, director of the BadgeOS Project; and educators from three Smithsonian museums conducting badge-based initiatives.

Using BadgeOS, Longwood University in Farmville, Va., is offering a post-secondary readiness MOOC program for high-school students this year. The noncredit course, called “5 Skills You Need to Succeed: What Employers Want You to Know,” teaches communication and presentation skills, critical thinking, interpersonal and intrapersonal skills, and how to successfully navigate the work world.
